Saving Lives through Blood Donation: How the Ukrainian Red Cross Promotes Blood Donation in Ukraine

The need for blood in Ukraine remains high due to the war, complex surgeries, and treatment of serious illnesses. At the same time, there is a shortage of regular donors: many people give blood only once, while myths, fears, and lack of information limit the growth of a consistent donor movement.

The Ukrainian Red Cross provides systematic support for blood donation. It collaborates with blood centres, organises donor initiatives at national and local levels, facilitates the delivery of blood to medical institutions, and promotes donation as an effective way to save lives. Together with partners, including DonorUA, we make blood donation accessible and regular. The

Health Promotion and Disease Prevention programme also contributes to organising donor campaigns across different regions of Ukraine.

Every month, dozens of volunteers and staff of the Ukrainian Red Cross donate blood and its components on their own initiative, supporting those in need.

Blood donation is an act of solidarity and humanity.

Just 30 minutes of your time and one donation can save up to three lives.
