The Ukrainian Red Cross conducted a session on the prevention of viral infections among children in the Ternopil region

Disease prevention among children is particularly important at this time of year, as cases of acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI), influenza and COVID-19 typically increase during the winter season. In response, the Ukrainian Red Cross conducted a practical session for Year 5 and Year 7 pupils of the Hrymailiv Lyceum as part of the Health Promotion and Disease Prevention programme.

During the session, pupils explored:

  • How to distinguish between ARVI and influenza, including the speed of symptom onset, severity of symptoms and potential complications;
  • The COVID-19 situation in 2026 and the importance of taking responsibility for one’s health;
  • Practical steps to protect themselves and their families, and when to seek advice from their GP.

The pupils actively participated in discussions and reinforced key preventive measures that help reduce the risk of infectious diseases. The session aimed to encourage children to take informed care of their health and to better understand how their bodies function. The programme is being implemented in the Ternopil region with the support of the Norwegian Red Cross.
