Over 1.5 million Ukrainians have received assistance from Ukrainian Red Cross mobile health units
Since the start of the full-scale invasion, Ukrainian Red Cross mobile health units have provided over 1,500,000 medical consultations and check-ups to residents of communities with limited or no access to healthcare services.
Currently, 82 mobile health units operate across 20 regions of Ukraine. Each team includes family doctors, paramedics, nurses, and drivers. Specialists provide primary healthcare directly at people’s homes, measuring blood pressure, blood glucose, and oxygen saturation, dispensing over-the-counter medicines when needed, and referring patients to specialised care.
In 2025 alone, the mobile health units conducted over 17,000 field visits. Priority remains on frontline regions near active conflict zones, where access to medical care is limited. The units also work in coordination with Ukrainian Red Cross emergency response teams, including escorting and transporting people to safer areas.
During field visits, mobile health units often work alongside volunteers and specialists from the Health Promotion and Disease Prevention programme. They provide guidance on disease prevention and support physical and mental well-being in the context of the war.
Several regions have specialised and multidisciplinary units in operation. For example, in the Odesa region, there is a team focused on assisting children with developmental disorders. In the Kharkiv region, mobile health units provide care to local residents and internally displaced persons from Rubizhne in the Luhansk region. In the Poltava region, telemedicine services have been introduced, while in the Rivne region, dedicated mobile health units provide services specifically for children.
Routes and schedules for field visits are planned in coordination with local primary healthcare centres, taking into account the current needs of communities. Residents are informed in advance of planned visits through local clinics and paramedic-obstetric stations.
The Ukrainian Red Cross mobile health units are not a regular medical service. Their mission is to provide temporary operational support to the state healthcare system, delivering medical assistance to the population, particularly to those affected by the war.
