Thousands of older people in Ukraine face the challenge of loneliness. Due to relatives moving to other regions or abroad, being away for military service, or for other reasons, many people across the country are left without support. To bring these individuals together and help them remain socially active, the Ukrainian Red Cross continues to expand its network of Active Longevity Clubs.

The main goal of these clubs is to promote an active lifestyle and personal development in a safe, supportive environment. The first clubs were established in 2018. Activities were paused during the full-scale war in Ukraine, but since 2023, the Ukrainian Red Cross, together with partners from the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and local authorities, has resumed their operation.

Currently, 132 clubs operate in 20 regions of Ukraine. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, 4,061 activities have been held for 4,783 participants, with the involvement of 345 volunteers. People aged 60 and above can join the clubs and even participate in their development or management. Volunteers and Ukrainian Red Cross staff help build strong, engaged teams.

Activities include:

  • Interest-based meetings, such as arts, cooking, and crafts
  • Lectures, workshops, and training sessions
  • Exercise sessions, yoga, and dance
  • Psychosocial support activities and events for special occasions
  • Social events to build connections and meet new people
  • Volunteering initiatives to support the local community

Members of the Active Longevity Clubs are active volunteers and local community representatives who form their own teams of regular participants. They build communities, inspire others, run events, encourage positive change, and invite like-minded people to join the clubs.

If you would like to become a participant or volunteer, please contact your nearest local branch or call the Ukrainian Red Cross hotline at 0 800 332 656.

We are expanding this support network to help older adults live active, fulfilling lives!
