On 3 December, the international community observes International Day of Persons with Disabilities, a day aimed at raising awareness of the need to protect rights, ensure equal opportunities, and create an inclusive environment for everyone.

In Zhytomyr, a thematic event was held at the Ukrainian Cultural Centre to support persons with disabilities and promote dialogue between government authorities, communities, and civil society organisations.

The event was attended by Vitalii Bunechko, Head of the Zhytomyr Regional Military Administration, Olena Hryshchuk, Director of the Department of Social Protection, regional council deputies, and the city council leadership.

In his opening remarks, Vitalii Bunechko thanked social service workers, civil society organisations, and all those who contribute daily to addressing the needs of persons with disabilities, supporting them, and facilitating their integration into society.

During the event, Vitalii Bunechko presented the Distinguished Service Award to Oleksandr Bohdan, Head of the Zhytomyr Regional Branch and Vice-President of the Ukrainian Red Cross, in recognition of his many years of work in social support for residents of the Zhytomyr region.

This recognition highlights the importance of collaboration between government authorities and the civil sector in meeting the needs of persons with disabilities, as well as the significant role of the Ukrainian Red Cross in developing social services, humanitarian programmes, and inclusive initiatives in the region.
