In the Zhytomyr region, Ukrainian Red Cross social helpers provide support to more than 300 people under their care

Across different districts of the Zhytomyr region, social helpers of the Ukrainian Red Cross support older people who live alone or with limited support, as well as people with disabilities. They purchase food and medicines, accompany people to medical appointments, and help with daily household tasks and personal hygiene. Most importantly, they provide companionship and remain close to those they support. This is a vital and responsible role that brings care, attention and a sense of safety to people who need it.

Many of these individuals have been left on their own for various reasons, especially since the beginning of the war in Ukraine. That is why 50 social helpers visit those under their care every day — currently 315 people — helping to make their lives easier. Home-based care activities in the Zhytomyr region are carried out with the support of the Japanese and British Red Cross.
