Large-Scale Emergency Preparedness Exercise Held at a Kyiv Hospital

Ukrainian Red Cross volunteers continue to strengthen their readiness to respond to emergencies.

Recently, a large-scale training exercise took place on the grounds of one of Kyiv’s hospitals. Participants included Ukrainian Red Cross emergency response teams from the National Committee and the Rivne region, Kyiv State Emergency Service (SES) rescuers, medical workers, and police representatives.

During the exercise, participants practised deploying decontamination stations and improving coordination in the event of a radiological or nuclear emergency. The training focused on:

  • procedures for responding to contamination of areas or equipment with hazardous substances;
  • deactivation, decontamination, and sanitary treatment of affected individuals;
  • coordination between the Ukrainian Red Cross and other emergency services.

Such exercises enhance the operational efficiency, safety, and coordination of all teams involved, ensuring that in the event of a real emergency, volunteers are ready to respond swiftly and effectively to protect people’s lives.
