Fire Safety Sessions: Knowledge That Saves Lives
As part of the Ukrainian Red Cross’s “School Safety Sessions” project, schoolchildren are learning how to respond appropriately in the event of a fire — including whom to call, how to stay calm, and how to help themselves and others.
Together with the children, our instructors practise simple yet life-saving steps, such as:
- how to quickly report an emergency by dialling 101 or 112;
- why staying calm and listening to adults is crucial;
- how to evacuate a building safely;
- which common mistakes to avoid in such situations.
The sessions are delivered in an engaging and accessible way — through dialogue, real-life examples, and interactive activities — because building a culture of safety starts in childhood.
We firmly believe that the earlier children learn these skills, the more confident and prepared they will be in any situation.
The project is being implemented in the Vinnytsia, Cherkasy and Kirovohrad regions by the Disaster Risk Reduction team of the Ukrainian Red Cross, in partnership with the British Red Cross.
