Over 400 Social Transport Services Provided by the Ukrainian Red Cross in Zakarpattia Region

Since April this year, a dedicated mobile unit has been operating in Uzhhorod and the Uzhhorod district as part of a pilot project delivering social transport services. To date, the unit has completed over 400 trips. A second mobile unit will soon begin operating in six communities of the Mukachevo district, further expanding access to the service.

This service is designed to support people with mobility challenges who are unable to access essential services or institutions independently. Transport is provided free of charge and will gradually become available to a wider range of people in need.

Currently, the service is available to residents of the Zakarpattia region who fall into the following categories:

  • People with disabilities
  • People with limited mobility
  • Older people
  • War veterans
  • Beneficiaries of the Home-Based Care programme

Transport is provided to and from:

  • Healthcare facilities
  • Social service institutions
  • Bank branches

The social transport pilot is being implemented with the support of the Austrian Red Cross, as part of the Ukrainian Red Cross mobile health units initiative. The programme is delivered in close coordination with municipal and district social services, the Administrative Services Centre, six territorial communities in the Mukachevo district, the Mukachevo District Council, and other partners involved in the delivery of social services across Zakarpattia.
