The Ukrainian Red Cross has provided school libraries in the Kyiv region with books on international humanitarian law

The Ukrainian Red Cross continues its initiative to donate books on international humanitarian law (IHL) to libraries across Ukraine. This time, as part of the national public campaign “Books on IHL – to Libraries in Ukraine”, representatives from around 40 school libraries in the Kyiv region received selected collections of literature on IHL.

Raising awareness of IHL remains a key priority for the Ukrainian Red Cross, particularly in times of war. The national campaign seeks to broaden access to this knowledge, especially among children, by equipping school libraries with specialised literature. IHL, a branch of international law, is designed to protect victims of armed conflict and to restrict the means and methods of warfare.

The event, held in Bila Tserkva at the Kyiv Regional In-Service Teacher Training Institute, featured a session on the fundamentals of IHL delivered by Anna Tishchenko, a volunteer trainer at the Ukrainian Red Cross. Participants also attended a presentation on the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement — its structure, mission, and emblems. Educators gained insights into the work of the Ukrainian Red Cross and the significance of safeguarding the Red Cross emblem.

With the support of its international partners, the Ukrainian Red Cross continues its dedicated efforts to promote knowledge of IHL and extends its gratitude to all those involved in this vital initiative.
