Implementation of the Multisectoral Emergency Response Programme in Ukraine’s Frontline Regions
Despite the constant threat of shelling and the proximity to the front line, Ukraine’s frontline regions remain home to thousands of citizens. These areas face the highest risk of explosive hazards — from mined roadsides and fields to forests, abandoned buildings, and debris from military equipment.
As part of the Multisectoral Emergency Response Programme, Ukrainian Red Cross mine risk education specialists are actively conducting awareness-raising activities in remote communities across the Odesa, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, and Dnipro regions. These sessions involve a wide range of people — from critical infrastructure workers who risk their lives daily in the line of duty, to postal workers, students, teachers, children, and older adults. After all, any one of them could encounter danger in their everyday surroundings. The mission of our specialists is to equip them with the knowledge that can help prevent tragedy.
The Multisectoral Emergency Response Programme is designed to save lives and protect people living in areas affected by ongoing military operations. It also supports internally displaced persons and vulnerable groups, including women, children, the elderly, and people with disabilities.
The programme is implemented with the support of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and USAID’s Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (BHA).
