The Ukrainian Red Cross Provides Assistance at Transit Centres for Evacuees
There are currently four temporary transit centres in operation for evacuees from frontline communities in the Donetsk region — two in the Kharkiv region and two in the Dnipro region. People evacuated from high-risk areas can receive humanitarian assistance from Ukrainian Red Cross volunteers and specialists, including hygiene kits, food parcels, and drinking water.
In the Kharkiv region and at one of the transit centres in the Dnipro region, a mobile bathing and laundry facility is available, enabling evacuees to shower and wash and dry their clothes.
The transit centres also provide temporary accommodation, equipped with basic facilities and sleeping spaces. If needed, evacuees can access first aid and medical consultations. Volunteers also offer psychological first aid, while children receive psychosocial support kits to help them cope during displacement.
Volunteers from the Ukrainian Red Cross emergency response teams assist in transporting people with limited mobility to transit centres for temporary shelter. When necessary, they also take individuals to medical facilities or to railway stations, where they can board evacuation trains to safer locations or reunite with family members.
Additionally, three mobile shelters have been established in the Dnipro region to provide protection during air raid alerts.
