Ukrainian Red Cross Rehabilitation Centre Opens in Zhydachiv

On 28 July, the Ukrainian Red Cross officially opened a rehabilitation centre in the town of Zhydachiv, Lviv region — marking an important step in expanding access to community-based rehabilitation services.

The new facility has been equipped in line with the core principles of inclusivity, featuring a ramp, an adapted bathroom, and specialised equipment. Individual physical therapy sessions are provided by specialists from the mobile rehabilitation units of the Lviv regional branch of the Ukrainian Red Cross. The services are available to veterans, internally displaced persons, people with disabilities, older adults, and anyone needing recovery from injuries, trauma, illness, or other conditions.

“Bringing rehabilitation services closer to the community is an extremely important activity. Often, even after completing treatment in hospitals or outpatient clinics, beneficiaries are unable to fully recover. Since it is within the community that people continue their daily lives, having access to support nearby — without the need for long journeys or lengthy waits — makes a significant difference to the quality and duration of recovery.

The Ukrainian Red Cross mobile rehabilitation units are already actively working in various communities to provide assistance to those in need. At the same time, the opening of a specialised facility in Zhydachiv will greatly enhance this work by enabling longer and more comprehensive rehabilitation through the use of essential equipment and the capacity to support a larger number of beneficiaries. This not only improves the effectiveness of care but also promotes faster social integration and helps individuals return to active community life,” says Tetiana Machulianska, acting head of the physical and mental rehabilitation unit of the Ukrainian Red Cross.

The facility is open on weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Appointments can be made by calling +38 067 963 90 02 or by emailing mru.coordinator.lv@redcross.org.ua. The Ukrainian Red Cross hotline is also available at 0 800 332 656.

This space was created with the support of the Government of Japan. Representatives from the Ukrainian Red Cross, the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and members of the local community attended the opening.

This rehabilitation centre marks another step towards making rehabilitation services more accessible and affordable for everyone who needs them.
