969 households in the Kharkiv region have been selected for the Livelihoods Support Programme run by the Ukrainian Red Cross and the World Food Programme

Since 24 February 2022, thousands of families in the Kharkiv region have lost their stability, livelihoods, and the means to maintain their households. To help people rebuild their lives and foster economic sustainability in rural communities, the Ukrainian Red Cross, in partnership with the UN World Food Programme, is implementing a project to support the development of small-scale farming.

In July, Ukrainian Red Cross specialists carried out over 3,000 verification visits to households in the Savyntsi and Barvinkove communities of the Kharkiv region.

The main aim is to identify those most in need of assistance, who also show potential for development and have the technical capacity to put the support into practice.

Following a thorough selection process, 969 households have now been chosen to take part in the programme. It is expected that more than 6,000 people will directly benefit from this initiative.

The project offers comprehensive support in the form of:

  • a greenhouse kit (including a greenhouse and drip irrigation system)
  • a small-scale mechanisation kit (motorised cultivator and tools)
  • a gardening kit (drip irrigation systems)
  • or financial assistance for farming development — such as livestock breeding, beekeeping, or product processing

The next stages of the project include consultations with specialists and training sessions to ensure the effective use of the provided resources and to support sustainable development in local communities.

We are grateful to the communities of the Kharkiv region for their cooperation, openness, and trust.

We remain committed to working together to restore well-being and strengthen the local economy.
