Raising Awareness of Mine Risks Among Those Affected by Attacks

Prevention is key to safety. We raise awareness among people affected by attacks about the risks posed by mines. Explosive objects can remain on the ground after shelling — and coming into contact with them can be fatal.

Teams of mine risk education specialists from the Ukrainian Red Cross visit affected areas as soon as it is safe to do so. Their main task is to warn people about the dangers that remain long after the shelling has ended.

Debris, unexploded ordnance, and remnants of mines pose serious threats to those returning home, passing through, children playing nearby, or walking their pets.

Our specialists:

  • Show what explosive objects may look like
  • Explain why they must never be touched, moved, or picked up
  • Inform people where to report dangerous items
  • Provide clear, simple guidance on how to stay safe

Please note: The danger can be anywhere — even in regions considered remote, such as Lviv or Cherkasy, not to mention Sumy or Mykolaiv. Unexploded ordnance poses a threat regardless of location.

“We work not only where the danger is already known, but also where invisible threats remain. Our main task is to inform people before someone takes a fatal step,” says a mine risk specialist.

We remind you of some simple rules that can save lives:

  • Do not touch
  • Do not approach
  • Call 101, 102, or 112 immediately

We are committed to making every return home safe and confident.
