In Novomyrhorod, Kirovohrad region, sessions were held to promote active lifestyles among members of the Ukrainian Red Cross Active Longevity Club

As part of the Ukrainian Red Cross Health Promotion and Disease Prevention programme, volunteers conducted an information session titled “Healthy Lifestyle: Why Physical Activity Matters”, followed by a practical session on Nordic walking.

Participants learned about the impact of physical activity, including:

  • Benefits for the body: improved blood pressure, weight management, and prevention of cardiovascular diseases, stroke, diabetes, and more
  • Strengthening of the musculoskeletal system, better coordination, and increased muscle tone
  • Reduced risk of depression and dementia, as well as improved memory and overall well-being

During the practical session, participants learned how to structure their daily routines to incorporate physical activity. A light warm-up and Nordic walking served as a valuable complement to the knowledge gained. Most participants agreed that maintaining an active lifestyle is both important and necessary at any age. The programme in the Kirovohrad region is implemented with the support of the Danish Red Cross.
