Ukrainian Red Cross volunteers joined the search for a missing child in the Zakarpattia region

On the evening of 23 June, a boy born in 2023 went missing in the village of Roztoky, Zakarpattia region. The child disappeared from the yard while his parents were engaged in household chores. 

All available resources were mobilised in the search for two-year-old Yurchyk: first responders, police, border guards, forestry workers, and local residents. Volunteers from the Ukrainian Red Cross emergency response team in Zakarpattia also joined the search effort. 

The search continued throughout the night, and at approximately 5:42 a.m. the following morning, the child was found alive near an abandoned building on the outskirts of the village. Volunteers provided psychological first aid to the mother and first aid to the child. After checking the boy’s vital signs, volunteers passed the information to the emergency medical team, who then took the mother and child to the hospital. 

Three Ukrainian Red Cross volunteers and one off-road vehicle were involved in the operation.
