Providing clean water to communities affected by the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station

Following the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station two years ago, many towns and villages have faced ongoing challenges with access to drinking water. This includes the Kushuhum territorial community in the Zaporizhzhia region.

“We have a huge problem with drinking water — there simply isn’t enough. That’s why we appealed to the Ukrainian Red Cross on behalf of our community,” said Volodymyr Sosunovskyi, head of the Kushuhum territorial community.

In response to the request, and in partnership with Reckitt, the Ukrainian Red Cross installed a reverse osmosis water purification system in the community. In addition, spare membranes, toolkits, cartridges, reagents, and tanks for storing and transporting purified water were also provided.

“Our water is contaminated and unfit for consumption. Thanks to the support of the Ukrainian Red Cross, our children and all residents of the village will now have access to safe, purified water,” said Viktoriia, a teacher at Hnarovsk Primary School.
