Kharkiv: The Ukrainian Red Cross assists at the scene of an air strike on the city
Volunteers from the Ukrainian Red Cross emergency response team in the Kharkiv region are working alongside the city’s rescue services at the site of the emergency.
The volunteers have conducted door-to-door visits of damaged buildings and surrounding areas to identify victims, provided first aid to the injured, and handed them over to ambulance staff for hospital transport. They also offered psychological first aid to those affected, as well as water and hot drinks to victims, utility workers, and emergency personnel involved in the response. A canine team is also participating in the rescue operations.
The State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported that a large-scale Russian attack on Kharkiv involving drones, aerial bombs, and missiles resulted in one fatality and 17 injuries, including two children. One of the strikes hit a nine-storey residential building. The attack also damaged houses in the city’s private sector, a civilian enterprise, and other facilities.
Emergency and rescue operations are ongoing.
