The Ukrainian Red Cross participated in a major event in the Cherkasy region

The village of Melnyky in the Chyhyryn district hosted the ethno-festival ‘Family Cradle of the Defender’, which brought together more than 300 veterans and their families from across the region. The event aimed to unite families through Ukrainian culture and traditions, with joint participation in educational, creative and active activities. The teams from the Cherkasy regional and Cherkasy city branches of the Ukrainian Red Cross took an active part in the festival, showcasing a range of vital support services for veterans and their families. In particular:

  • The Reboot programme — we informed veterans about opportunities for recovery, adaptation, and the implementation of their own initiatives.
  • First aid — instructors taught how to respond to loss of consciousness, how to place someone in the recovery position, and what to do until medical help arrives.
  • Mine risk awareness — we shared information about the most common types of mines and explosive devices, safety rules, and the steps to take in case of threat.
  • Psychosocial support — we created a warm, creative, and homely space for children.
  • A mobile health unit of the Ukrainian Red Cross, based at the Zvenyhorod Primary Health Care Centre, had a doctor and nurse who informed people about preventing and managing hypertension and diabetes. They also performed quick checks for blood sugar, oxygen levels, and blood pressure.
  • The emergency response team of the Ukrainian Red Cross spoke about their work responding to attacks and other emergencies and introduced a new service — transporting people with limited mobility.

We are grateful to everyone who took part in the event! There is strength in unity, care, and support!
