Four Ukrainian Red Cross Volunteers from the Sumy Region Awarded Medals for Saving Lives

Volunteers from the Ukrainian Red Cross emergency response team are usually called upon swiftly to deal with urgent situations. As the security situation in the Sumy region continues to deteriorate, emergency call-outs have become an almost daily occurrence. This time, however, the gathering was for a different reason — a formal ceremony to present awards and express gratitude for their service.

Twenty volunteers from the emergency response teams of the Sumy regional and Sumy local branches were recognised for their dedication and willingness to risk their lives to help those in need.

Among them, four volunteers were awarded the Medals for Saving Lives:

  • Volodymyr Moskalenko, commander of the emergency response team of the Sumy regional branch of the Ukrainian Red Cross
  • Vitalii Kulyk, deputy commander of the emergency response team of the Sumy regional branch of the Ukrainian Red Cross
  • Hennadii Vorona, volunteer of the emergency response team of the Sumy regional branch of the Ukrainian Red Cross
  • Viktoriia Stetsenko, volunteer of the emergency response team of the Sumy regional branch of the Ukrainian Red Cross

“During the award ceremony, each of them began by thanking the Armed Forces of Ukraine, saying that the real heroes are those on the frontline. But thanks to the dedication of the Ukrainian Red Cross and their tireless volunteer work saving lives, they help make the world a better place,” the Sumy Regional Branch of the Ukrainian Red Cross said in a statement.
