The Ukrainian Red Cross emergency response team in the Dnipro region recently took part in joint exercises alongside first responders from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine

These drills focused on coordinated action during emergencies involving chemical or radioactive exposure resulting from attacks.
Participants practised a range of critical tasks, including:

  • Evacuating the population
  • Medical and sanitary decontamination
  • Medical triage and the provision of first aid

The training also enhanced communication and coordination under high-stress, fast-paced conditions — key elements in any real emergency response.

“During such exercises, we don’t just improve our skills — we build mutual understanding. Because in a real situation, there is no time to talk — every second counts. When you know professionals you trust are next to you, your actions become much more confident,” said Oleksii Yershov, Commander of the Ukrainian Red Cross emergency response team in the Dnipro region.

These exercises not only strengthen practical response capabilities but also help to develop effective coordination protocols, both within teams and between services. Such components are vital when every moment can mean the difference between life and death.
