3,000 Emergency Workers to Be Trained in First Aid by the Ukrainian Red Cross This Year

As part of the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Ukrainian Red Cross and the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, Ukrainian Red Cross instructors will conduct training sessions for first responders in all regions of the country. By the end of 2025, approximately 3,000 emergency workers will have acquired vital first aid knowledge. The training will be delivered in accordance with Order No. 1627 of the Ministry of Health, dated 4 August 2021, concerning the training of individuals without a medical education who are required to provide first aid as part of their official duties. The course, titled First on the Spot, commenced yesterday.

“We will train emergency workers according to a 48-hour programme. This is the first time we are conducting it since the beginning of the full-scale invasion,” said Nadiia Yamnenko, Head of the First Aid Department at the Ukrainian Red Cross.

The programme includes extensive hands-on practice and the analysis of first aid responses in various scenarios — from minor injuries, burns, and trauma to childbirth care, mine-blast injuries, crush syndrome, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). This training will enable emergency workers to respond swiftly and correctly to life-threatening situations before medical professionals arrive. First aid skills are not only a core component of first responders’ professional training but also essential to saving lives in critical moments.
