Life in the Modular Town in Zhytomyr Today

The modular town in Zhytomyr, which opened in November 2024, is now fully occupied. It has become a temporary yet safe and comfortable home for internally displaced persons who were forced to flee due to the war.

Recently, Volodymyr Rudenko, Head of the Ukrainian Red Cross Interregional Office for the Central and Western Region, visited the town to speak directly with its residents, learn about their living conditions, and assess their needs. Together with the town’s administrator, they discussed the next steps to improve daily life in the community.

Residents share that they feel comfortable living in the modular housing. There is enough space around the homes to grow vegetables and plant flowers, and a friendly community has already been formed. With solar panels, generators in every unit, and mobile shelters on site, families are equipped with essentials for safe and dignified living.

The Zhytomyr City Council, for its part, continues to improve the surrounding infrastructure, repairing roads and ensuring reliable transport links to the city centre.

The Ukrainian Red Cross remains in close contact with those it supports. Our concern extends beyond providing shelter — we care about what comes next. It is important to us that everyone feels safe, supported, and never alone when facing their challenges.
