More than 20 events took place throughout the week as part of the Ukrainian Red Cross’s Reboot programme, marking the World Day for Safety and Health at Work

Since 2006, Ukraine has also observed the World Day for Safety and Health at Work on 28 April each year. The day seeks to draw the attention of society, public authorities, and representatives of various organisations to occupational safety and health issues, as well as to prevent workplace accidents and occupational illnesses. Equally important is the aim of ensuring decent working conditions for all.

‌To mark the occasion, teams from the Ukrainian Red Cross’s “Reboot: Expanding Employment Opportunities” programme held events focused on occupational safety and health week and workplace inclusivity during war. Efforts are currently ongoing to support and integrate vulnerable populations at the local level, as well as to assist them in finding employment. One such group is people with disabilities. Accordingly, a range of events was organised to raise awareness of the programme and provide more people with opportunities for professional development or to start their own businesses.

‌Teams from the Vinnytsia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kirovohrad, Lviv, Mykolaiv, Poltava, Ternopil, Cherkasy, and Khmelnytskyi regions, as well as Kyiv and the Online Service, organised more than 20 events in various formats to further support and empower vulnerable people in finding employment. Each team held two events, such as panel discussions, partnership roundtables, information sessions, programme presentations, and visits to local enterprises.

‌The events were attended by representatives of local authorities, NGOs, administrative service centres, public organisations and charitable foundations, education providers, professional trainers, employers, and other partners. Potential programme participants were also invited to take part.

‌The events covered the following topics:

  • opportunities for training and micro-grant support
  • categories of vulnerability eligible to join the programme
  • the specifics of creating a safe working environment for people with disabilities
  • employment conditions in Ukrainе
  • benefits and potential barriers to employment for candidates, as well as prospects for employers

‌The Reboot programme is implemented in partnership with the Spanish, Danish, and Swiss Red Cross. Thanks to the availability of the online service, support for the population is now being extended nationwide. These events serve as a valuable platform for building cooperation at both local and national levels, with the aim of improving the well-being of those Ukrainians who need it most.
