Strengthening Emergency Preparedness: Training on Radiological, Chemical, Biological and Nuclear Protection for Ukrainian Red Cross Volunteers

In the context of the ongoing war, the safety and protection of the population remain a top priority. Radiological, chemical, biological, and nuclear (CBRN) threats can pose serious risks to civilians. That is why Ukrainian Red Cross volunteers undergo specialised training to ensure they are ready to respond swiftly and effectively.

Recently, a five-day training on CBRN protection was held for members of the Ukrainian Red Cross emergency response teams.

Participants attended expert-led lectures delivered by international partners, including Ludovic Patois, a CBRN specialist at the French Red Cross, and Jan Sven Bremer, a specialist from the CBRN Response Unit at the German Red Cross. Volunteers gained insights into the setup and functioning of decontamination stations and took part in hands-on simulations, practising responses to chemical attacks and radiation threats.

This training is a vital part of strengthening the capacity of the Ukrainian Red Cross to respond to a wide range of emergencies.
