Seminar on Socio-Economic Recovery in Ukraine (2025-2026) Held in Kyiv

The two-day event was organised by the Ukrainian Red Cross in cooperation with the Spanish Red Cross to present projects aimed at improving the socio-economic situation in Ukraine in the context of the ongoing war.

“Thanks to the support of national and international partners, we will be able to set a new course for the country’s recovery. We will make every effort to develop activities that primarily address the needs of communities,” said Illya Kletskovskyy, Deputy Director General of the Ukrainian Red Cross, in his opening speech.

The war has posed a significant challenge for internally displaced persons and other vulnerable groups who have been left without livelihoods. At present, 7,280,000 people in Ukraine require support to develop their own businesses, acquire new skills and knowledge, or restart their entrepreneurial activities. This is why, in collaboration with our partners, we have developed a plan to revitalise small and medium-sized businesses among the most vulnerable groups.

The main objectives of the meeting were:

  • To become acquainted with the activities and outcomes of the Socio-Economic Recovery Unit.
  • To discuss opportunities for cooperation, with a particular focus on the “Reboot: Expanding Employment Opportunities” programme. Specifically, the roadmap for collaboration with the Community Centre under the Reboot programme was presented.
  • To reach an agreement with partners on long-term cooperation in the area of livelihoods and to strengthen the One Plan of the Ukrainian Red Cross.

The heads of the Micro-Economic Initiatives, Emergency Livelihoods, and Human Capital Integration (the Reboot programme) sectors presented development perspectives aimed at:

  1. Strengthening the capacities of the most vulnerable populations, particularly through the restoration and protection of communities via the development of small-scale economic activities and entrepreneurship.
  2. Providing assistance to vulnerable households in their socio-economic recovery through the development of entrepreneurship, professional skills, support for small businesses, and improved employment opportunities.
  3. Involving Ukrainian Red Cross staff and volunteers in the development and provision of socio-economic recovery services.

Participants included the heads of Ukrainian Red Cross departments involved in the socio-economic recovery and livelihoods support of the Ukrainian population, as well as representatives from the Austrian, German, Danish, Swedish, Swiss, Italian, Japanese, British, Luxembourg, Norwegian, French, and Canadian Red Crosses, along with partner organisations within the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

The meeting featured presentations, discussions, debates, and group work, which helped to identify key steps, potential challenges, and strategies to overcome them. This will contribute to the development of activities and the provision of support to individuals seeking to advance their careers and improve the economic situation in their local communities and across the country.
