The Ukrainian Red Cross participated in a discussion on tuberculosis control held at the Public Health Centre

The Ukrainian Red Cross joined a discussion on tuberculosis control at the Public Health Centre to mark World Tuberculosis Day and the Day of the Phthisiologist. The event brought together representatives from the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the World Health Organization, TB centres, and other partner organisations to discuss the achievements and challenges in efforts to combat tuberculosis.

According to data from 2024, 18,140 cases of tuberculosis were registered in Ukraine, representing an 8.7% decrease compared to 2023. Despite the challenging wartime conditions, the TB care system in Ukraine remains stable, even in frontline regions. This was stated by Yana Terleieva, Head of the Department of Tuberculosis Management and Control at the Public Health Centre. She also highlighted the importance of updating the regulatory framework and implementing legislative changes that will help combat the disease more effectively.

The Ukrainian Red Cross actively supports efforts to combat tuberculosis. As part of its Health Promotion and Disease Prevention activities, the organisation, in collaboration with the Public Health Centre, has developed a range of information materials aimed at raising public awareness. In addition, health consultants conduct informational sessions on prevention, early diagnosis, and overcoming the stigma surrounding the disease.
