Providing Care When It Takes a Whole Day to Reach a Doctor: The Work of Mobile Health Units in the Kyiv Region
Residents of Motyzhyn village in the Makariv district of the Kyiv region must travel tens of kilometres to reach the nearest medical facility or pharmacy. The village lacks a family doctor or medical specialists who can measure blood sugar levels or conduct basic check-ups.
To support the local community, Ukrainian Red Cross mobile health units visit Motyzhyn weekly, providing primary healthcare and dispensing over-the-counter (OTC) medicines for general therapeutic use. In the event of a medical emergency, they can call an ambulance and meet it on the way to reduce waiting times. These mobile units operate across Ukraine, covering regions with the most urgent need for medical care.
The operation in the Kyiv region is supported by the British Red Cross.
