The Ukrainian Red Cross provides rehabilitation assistive devices

As part of the Rehabilitation in the Community project, mobile rehabilitation units not only offer rehabilitation services but also provide people with assistive devices (such as wheelchairs, canes, crutches, walkers, etc.), if necessary. The availability of such aids can significantly improve the quality of life and promote greater independence.

Specialists from the mobile rehabilitation units independently assess the need for each device. Rehabilitation aids are issued only after a professional assessment.

The equipment that can be provided by the Ukrainian Red Cross mobile rehabilitation units includes:

  • walking frames, single- and four-pronged canes, elbow crutches, underarm crutches;
  • wheelchairs, commode chairs, toilet handrails;
  • wall grab bars, bath and shower chairs, shower steps;
  • foot orthoses and supportive arm braces.

In addition, rehabilitation specialists can assess a person’s home environment and provide recommendations for accessibility. If necessary, they can also provide handrails or a portable ramp.

Project Results: In less than a year of operation, our specialists have provided 141 rehabilitation aids.

The Rehabilitation in the Community project operates in 13 regions: Lviv, Volyn, Rivne, Khmelnytskyi, Ivano-Frankivsk, Mykolaiv, Poltava, Dnipro, Ternopil, Chernihiv, Odesa, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhzhia.
