The Ukrainian Red Cross has signed an agreement with the Swedish Red Cross, supported by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, worth over UAH 68 million

In December, the Ukrainian and Swedish Red Crosses signed an agreement titled “Ukraine: Resilience, Recovery, and Rehabilitation”, with support from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida). The project aims to support conflict-affected communities by enhancing their resilience and ability to recover and rehabilitate. This is achieved through, among other activities, providing access to mental health and psychosocial support services, water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), and temporary housing for affected populations in communities impacted by hostilities, as well as for internally displaced persons who are most affected by the war.

The project will be implemented in the Kherson, Odesa, and Sumy regions, which continue to endure frequent shelling and other war-related challenges. The total value of the assistance provided under the agreement is UAH 68,404,294.

Under the terms of the agreement, the main areas of work include:

  • Initiating construction of a temporary social housing centre in Sumy.
  • Implementation of a mental health and psychosocial support programme in Sumy.
  • Expansion of regular access to technical water and other activities aimed at enhancing resilience among conflict-affected communities in the Kherson and Odesa regions.

Earlier, a delegation from Sweden’s government agency Sida (the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency) paid a visit to Ukraine. Representatives from the Swedish Red Cross and Sida, together with Erik Petersson, First Secretary of the Embassy of Sweden in Kyiv, held working meetings with representatives of the Ukrainian Red Cross to discuss support for the project to rebuild the children’s ward of the State Institution “Scientific and Practical Medical Centre for Paediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine” in Kyiv, as well as the implementation of the “Ukraine: Resilience, Recovery, and Rehabilitation” agreement.
