The physical and mental rehabilitation team from the National Committee of the Ukrainian Red Cross recently conducted a training session on “Rehabilitation Aids” for medical professionals in the Mahdalynivka community of the Dnipro region.

The event was attended by 30 doctors from Mahdalynivka Central District Hospital and medical workers from surrounding remote communities. The training was organised with the support of the British Red Cross.

During the 6-hour training, the healthcare professionals:

  • became familiar with the list, classification, and principles of prescribing rehabilitation aids;
  • learned how to identify indications, contraindications, and the principles for selecting and using assistive devices;
  • developed practical skills in prescribing, adapting, and evaluating the effectiveness and safety of rehabilitation aids to ensure the mobility of patients with disabilities;
  • gained knowledge on the maintenance of assistive devices;
  • became familiar with the concept and classification of wheelchairs in rehabilitation.

The training was followed by a meeting between the medical director of the Mahdalynivka Primary Healthcare Centre and representatives of the Ukrainian Red Cross to discuss the community’s rehabilitation needs. They specifically addressed staff training, the use of existing equipment, the installation of ramps, and ensuring inclusiveness in outpatient clinics.

Additionally, routes were developed for mobile rehabilitation units to visit 75 beneficiaries in the Mahdalynivka community, with operations set to begin on 6 January 2025.
