The Ukrainian Red Cross joins forces to strengthen the “Raising Awareness of the Risks of Explosive Devices and Promoting Safer Behaviour” programme

On 3-4 December 2024, a two-day mine action event took place in Kyiv, bringing together mine risk specialists from 18 regions of Ukraine. The event aimed to combine efforts and share experiences between regional teams to improve mine risk education, develop action strategies, and overcome challenges in their work.

Svitlana Avramenko, Head of the Humanitarian Access and Protection Department, stated:

“Our main mission is to make the country safer for every citizen. We have gathered here professionals working in challenging conditions to develop new approaches to solving problems together. The exchange of experience, support, and training enables our teams to act more effectively in the face of constant challenges.”

Highlights of the event:

  • Participation of international partners: Representatives from the Danish Red Cross, the International Committee of the Red Cross, the head of the Trinity Hub NGO, specialists from the mine detection dog centre, and the head of the humanitarian demining unit spoke at the event.
  • Panel discussions and workshops: Participants discussed real-life situations faced in the regions, shared effective practices, and collaboratively developed strategic plans for each region.
  • Deepening knowledge: The event included a series of practical training sessions, workshops, and lectures.

The event was an important step in consolidating efforts to raise awareness about mine risks. The knowledge gained will enable experts to expand their work and improve the safety of citizens.
