Six Ukrainian Red Cross volunteers lost their lives while saving others
Six Ukrainian Red Cross volunteers were killed during the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Today, we remember their names and deeds with both sorrow and pride.
- Yevhen Piskotin – Evacuated 11 people from Hostomel but was unable to reach his own family. He was captured by Russian forces and killed by a gunshot to the head.
- Yevhen Nesterenko – Died in Marinka while evacuating a local resident under shelling. He was buried in the yard of his house.
- Denys Skrychevskyi – Commander of the Chaplynka unit of the Ukrainian Red Cross emergency response team in the Kherson region. He died during an artillery shelling.
- Serhii Sihaiev – Distributed humanitarian aid in Avdiivka. He died in his house during an artillery shelling.
- Valentyn Latyntsev – Remembered by friends and colleagues as an exemplary volunteer and a source of positive energy. He was killed by a direct hit from a rocket to his house.
- Viktoriia Yaryshko – Actively helped residents of the Kherson region. She died as a result of shelling during the distribution of humanitarian aid.
The Ukrainian Red Cross is deeply proud of the bravery and dedication of every volunteer who sacrificed their time and energy to help others and ultimately gave the most precious gift of all—their lives. We extend our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims and mourn this immense loss alongside you. Despite all the challenges, we continue to work tirelessly to support people across Ukraine. No matter the circumstances, we stand by those in need.
