About 7,000 Ukrainians, including the elderly and people with disabilities, have received winter cash assistance through the Home-Based Care programme

This programme is designed to support socially and economically vulnerable populations across Ukraine. Each household received a one-off payment of UAH 21,000 to cover expenses for six months of the heating season. The assistance helped recipients meet their winter needs, including utility bills, fuel or firewood, medicines, food, and warm clothing.

This initiative is an additional component of the Home-Based Care programme and complements the other services it provides.

The programme is implemented with the support of the following partners: the British Red Cross (FCDO), the Danish Red Cross, the Norwegian Red Cross, the German Red Cross, and the Austrian Red Cross.

A Powerful Case from the Sumy Region

One of the most compelling examples of the programme’s impact is the story of Yurii from the Sumy region. After receiving winter cash assistance, he chose to donate part of the money to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

“For some people, the money helped pay for heating, while for others, it was used to buy necessary medicines. But Yurii chose to support our defenders, and that deserves special respect,” said the project coordinator.

Yurii’s story is inspiring and serves as a reminder that, even in difficult times, people find ways to help others.
