The annual interregional training of volunteer rescuers took place in the Ivano-Frankivsk region
The training was attended by 45 volunteers of the Ukrainian Red Cross emergency response teams from the Zakarpattia, Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv, Chernivtsi, and Volyn regions, alongside SES units, as well as teachers and students from the Ivano-Frankivsk Professional College of Physical Education at the National University of Physical Education and Sports of Ukraine.
The programme covered several important and relevant areas, including:
- First aid training and practice for injuries and emergencies. Participants honed their skills in medical triage and victim transportation.
- Deployment of mobile heating units and first aid stations. Participants practised setting up tents and organising equipment efficiently during emergencies.
- Avalanche safety training. Volunteers and emergency workers learned how to assess avalanche risks, use specialised equipment to search for victims buried under snow and organise rescue operations after an avalanche.
- Search and rescue operations in mountainous terrain. Volunteers learned the basics of orienteering in the mountains and how to search for missing persons.
At the end of the training, the teams tested their knowledge and skills in a simulation exercise. According to the scenario, the volunteers were tasked with deploying a mobile heating unit and first aid station in response to a UAV being shot down over a tourist base.
