The Luxembourg Red Cross has been providing assistance to healthcare facilities in Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale invasion

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the Luxembourg Red Cross has expanded its activities in Ukraine, providing active assistance to healthcare institutions. Realizing the devastating consequences of the hostilities, the organization systematically supports state and local institutions in their activities to restore damaged medical facilities as soon as possible and return them to full operation.

In particular, since 2022, the Luxembourg Red Cross has been helping the Irpin branch of the Heart Institute, which, like many buildings in the city, was seriously damaged by shelling. At that time, the Luxembourg Red Cross, in partnership with the Ukrainian Red Cross, helped to restore the damaged medical buildings of the medical institution and start receiving patients as soon as possible. Also, this year the Luxembourg Red Cross financed the purchase of modern industrial laundry equipment, which will significantly facilitate the work of the hospital’s sanitary staff and improve the quality of patients’ stay in the hospital.

In 2023-2024, the Luxembourg Red Cross helped to create a safe shelter at the Irpin Heart Institute to protect patients during missile attacks and drone strikes that intensified during this period. The 32 m² basement was renovated, sanitary rooms were arranged and a ventilation system with automatic and manual modes was installed. Drinking water supplies were also provided, benches were assembled, and backup lighting and communication equipment were installed to comfortably accommodate 30 people in the shelter for 48 hours.

The Luxembourg Red Cross plans to continue to provide assistance to the most vulnerable categories of the Ukrainian population, responding promptly to the urgent challenges caused by the war. The priorities also include support for awareness-raising activities to prevent cardiovascular diseases, tuberculosis, diabetes and other chronic diseases. The organization will continue to maintain close cooperation with the Ukrainian Red Cross, government agencies and local authorities.
