Hot meals, support, information, and clothing: every Sunday in Cherkasy, the Ukrainian Red Cross team will organise a support hub to assist those facing difficult life circumstances

The Cherkasy regional branch of the Ukrainian Red Cross has established a unique support hub for those in need. It will be held every Sunday on the grounds of St Michael’s Garrison Cathedral, a place frequently visited by individuals who have lost almost everything—home, employment, friends, and family.

Every Sunday, a free kitchen will be open to those in need. In addition to providing food, volunteers will:

  • Hold information sessions about the activities of the Ukrainian Red Cross.
  • Promote and develop volunteering.
  • Provide psychosocial support for both adults and children.
  • Conduct mine risk education sessions for children at the cathedral’s Sunday school to raise awareness of the dangers of explosive ordnance.
  • Distribute clothing, footwear, utensils, and other essentials from the Clothing Bank to vulnerable populations.

On the first day of the support hub’s operation, 120 people in need were served hot lunches by volunteers – cereal with meat, vegetable salad, tea, and pies.

“Cooperation is key to providing help in the most difficult times,” the Cherkasy branch of the Ukrainian Red Cross stated on its social media page. The initiative is currently in the active planning and development phase, but discussions about cooperation in humanitarian projects aimed at assisting internally displaced persons and those affected by the war have already taken place. “We want this initiative to offer tangible benefits to everyone who needs it and become a source of support and hope in these challenging times.”

We stand by those in need!
