In Uzhhorod, a volunteer and youth space has been opened by the Ukrainian Red Cross city branch

The first steps towards implementing this idea began in April 2024, with a survey of the availability of similar youth spaces in the community and an assessment of the local needs for expanding youth sector activities. As a result of dedicated efforts, a youth space was opened at Uzhhorod Lyceum No. 7. The space is divided into several zones:

  • a common room with a stage for public events;
  • a separate room for sessions, training, lectures, and masterclasses;
  • a relaxation area with cushions and bean bag chairs, along with a work area;
  • a photo zone with branded banners in the background.

Additionally, equipment and supplies were purchased to facilitate leisure activities for volunteers and young people, including film screenings, games, karaoke, table football, table tennis, chess, and more.

Entertainment and leisure are not the only purposes of the youth space. It is also a place where, during humanistic education sessions by the Ukrainian Red Cross, young people can:

  • discover themselves through communication, reflection, and simulation of real-life situations, helping them better understand themselves and their needs;
  • acquire new skills by gaining tools for effective communication, conflict resolution, emotional management, and more;
  • change the world around them by learning how to improve their community and make it more comfortable for everyone;
  • learn valuable social and emotional life skills, such as empathy, critical thinking, non-violent communication, negotiation, and more;
  • develop their understanding of various social issues, such as discrimination, exclusion, gender inequality, violence, and more;
  • acquire basic project management skills, enabling them to identify the most pressing issues in their communities and develop social initiatives to address them.

At the workshops, young people will have the opportunity to acquire first aid skills that can change someone’s fate or even save a life in a critical moment.

This space was created to help young people fulfil their dreams and reach their potential, empowering them to inspire, create, and develop alongside the Ukrainian Red Cross team!

The opening took place as part of the Ukrainian Red Cross grant project “Youth Engagement – From Initiative to Action,” supported by the Finnish Red Cross and in partnership with the Austrian Red Cross (FinHeals+).

The centre is located at 49 Antonina Dvorzhaka St., Uzhhorod. For more information, please contact: +38 (066) 900-39-07. 0-39-07.
