Maksym Dotsenko, Director General of the Ukrainian Red Cross, has received an award from the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights
The award ceremony took place during the International Human Rights Conference, “The Decade 2014–2024: Reclaiming Human Rights, Preserving Democracy.”
The award recognises his outstanding contribution to strengthening diplomatic cooperation, his services to the Ukrainian people — particularly during the period of full-scale military aggression against Ukraine — his dedication to the protection of human rights and freedoms, his compassion for and support of victims of war, and his defence of their dignity. The award is timed to coincide with Human Rights Day.
The conference was attended by over a thousand representatives of governments and international organisations from around the world, as well as human rights defenders, journalists, and civil society representatives. In particular, attendees included the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset; the Ombudsman of Moldova; the President of the National Coordination of Italian Ombudsmen; representatives from Estonia; and delegates from a number of other countries. Ukrainian and international human rights organisations also participated, including the UN, the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights, ENNHRI (European Network of National Human Rights Institutions), and others.
