Today, 10 October, is World Mental Health Day

This year, the World Health Organization is drawing public attention to mental health in the workplace. Safe and adequate working conditions are crucial for protecting employees’ mental health. In contrast, unfavourable workplace conditions—including stigma, discrimination, high levels of tension, exhaustion, and dangerous working environments—can significantly increase the risk of emotional burnout and may lead to mental disorders in the future. Therefore, strengthening the mental health of Ukrainians in the workplace is a priority for the state and employers in Ukraine.

The Ukrainian Red Cross places considerable emphasis on measures and actions aimed at caring for the mental health of its employees. Many employees and volunteers of the Ukrainian Red Cross are internally displaced persons who have suffered due to the war in Ukraine, and they continually work in stressful conditions to help others.

In particular, the Ukrainian Red Cross has organised a mental health support programme for the population of Ukraine, currently operating in 23 regions and the city of Kyiv. As a result, more than 780,000 adults and 476,000 children have received psychosocial support since the start of the full-scale invasion. Additionally, eight psychosocial support centres have been established where people in need can receive the necessary assistance and find companionship.
