A safe space for mothers and children in the Dnipro region

The renovated Donetsk Regional Social Centre for Mothers and Children is now operating in the city of Samar — a place where women with children who have been affected by the war or forced to leave their homes can receive temporary accommodation and the necessary support.

The Ukrainian Red Cross carried out a range of renovation and refurbishment works in the 690 m² premises. The works included demolition and finishing works, replacement of doors, partial window upgrades, as well as providing the space with furniture and necessary equipment.

The centre has now become a place of temporary support for families, offering safe living conditions and comprehensive assistance.

The initiative is implemented within the project “Strengthening of Urban Resilience in the Areas of Supply Infrastructure and Housing” (SUR), which is a part of Germany’s Transitional Development Assistance (TDA), commissioned by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
