The Netherlands Red Cross delegation visits Ukraine

The Ukrainian Red Cross hosted a delegation from the Netherlands Red Cross, led by Director General Harm Goossens.

During a meeting with the Ukrainian Red Cross leadership, President Maksym Dotsenko outlined the organisation’s key areas of work, the scale of its humanitarian response and the challenges it currently faces. The meeting also focused on further cooperation and support for people affected by the war.

An important part of the visit was a field trip to the regions. In the Zhytomyr region, the delegation visited the Korosten district branch of the Ukrainian Red Cross and met with volunteers and people receiving assistance. In the Chernihiv region, the partners learned more about the work of the regional branch and its programmes supporting local communities, including the work of mobile rehabilitation units.

In Kyiv, representatives of the Netherlands Red Cross visited the Centre for Paediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, which the Ukrainian Red Cross helped restore following a Russian strike on 8 July 2024.

The partners also learned more about the work of the Ukrainian Red Cross emergency response teams and their cooperation with the State Emergency Service of Ukraine. They also visited the site of a Russian strike in Kyiv and saw the damage caused by the attack.

Such visits give partners an opportunity to see humanitarian work firsthand, better understand the needs of people and communities, and jointly identify areas for further support.

We thank the Netherlands Red Cross for its support and partnership.
