Renovated Mother and Child Social Support Centre Opens in Dnipro Region

A relocated Donetsk Regional Mother and Child Social Support Centre has officially opened in Samar, Dnipro region, providing a safe space for women and their children affected by the war or forced to flee their homes.

With support from the Luxembourg Red Cross, the Ukrainian Red Cross carried out comprehensive renovation and refurbishment works to create safe and comfortable living conditions for families. The project covered the renovation of 690 square metres of the facility and included demolition and finishing works, door replacement, partial window replacement, and the furnishing and equipping of the Centre.

The Centre will provide free temporary accommodation and comprehensive social support to women with children facing difficult life circumstances.

The opening ceremony was attended by Oleksandr Shevchenko, Deputy Head of the Donetsk Regional State Administration, and Serhii Rieznik, Mayor of Samar. They toured the renovated Centre and learned more about the support it will provide to women and children.

The renovation was carried out by the Ukrainian Red Cross, with support from the Luxembourg Red Cross, within the framework of the Strengthening Urban Resilience in the Areas of Supply Infrastructure and Housing in Ukraine (SUR) project. The SUR project is part of Germany’s Transitional Development Assistance, commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
