The Ukrainian Red Cross joins the Civil Protection Shelter Coalition
On 9 June, the Ukrainian Red Cross joined the Civil Protection Shelter Coalition, an international platform that brings together government institutions, international partners, and development organisations to strengthen civilian safety and support the development of Ukraine’s shelter system.
Participation in the Coalition will enable the Ukrainian Red Cross to combine its hands-on experience working directly with communities with international expertise, strengthen coordination between the humanitarian sector and government institutions, and help attract additional support for the development of safe and accessible shelters across the country.
During the Coalition meeting, Maksym Dotsenko, Director General of the Ukrainian Red Cross, presented the organisation’s experience in establishing and upgrading shelters, as well as its vision for future cooperation within the Coalition.
“For millions of Ukrainians, shelters are not just concrete structures and engineering solutions. They are places where people can protect themselves, their children, parents, and loved ones in moments of danger,” Maksym Dotsenko said.
Since the start of the full-scale invasion, the Ukrainian Red Cross has implemented more than 100 projects to establish and upgrade shelters across Ukraine. More than 75% of these projects have focused on improving safety in educational and healthcare facilities. In addition, more than 200 mobile shelters have already been provided to communities.
The Ukrainian Red Cross remains committed to sharing its experience and serving as a partner in implementing solutions aimed at strengthening community safety and advancing Ukraine’s civil protection system.
We thank our partners for their trust and cooperation in creating a safer environment for people across Ukraine.
