Over 7,000 activities delivered — in May, the Mental Health and Psychosocial Support programme of the Zakarpattia regional branch of the Ukrainian Red Cross marked the fourth anniversary of its work
The programme began in Uzhhorod with a small team of volunteers working in temporary accommodation centres for internally displaced people. Over time, Zakarpattia became home to the first Ukrainian Red Cross Psychosocial Support Centre in Ukraine, and the programme began to expand rapidly.
⠀
Today, the Mental Health and Psychosocial Support programme operates across the Zakarpattia region — in cities, villages, and remote communities where support is especially needed. District and city branches, specialists, and volunteers joined the effort and continue to help people cope with difficult life circumstances every day.
⠀
Over the years, the teams have worked in a wide range of conditions, including at humanitarian aid distribution points, during blackouts and air raid alerts, in shelters, as well as during emergencies and while meeting evacuation trains.
Over four years of work, the teams have:
- provided support to more than 71,400 people;
- established 11 child-friendly spaces;
- delivered around 150 activities across the region every month.
In addition to psychosocial support, the teams have consistently developed psychological support services, strengthened their expertise, and improved approaches to working with people.
⠀
We continue to work to ensure that people do not face difficult experiences alone during the most challenging moments of their lives and can always receive the support they need.
