Ukrainian Red Cross volunteers helped people evacuate from Zaporizhzhia to Zakarpattia

Emergency response teams of the Ukrainian Red Cross in the Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, and Zakarpattia regions assisted in evacuating people from a frontline community in the Zaporizhzhia region to a safer location in Zakarpattia.

The evacuation took place in several stages. First, the Zaporizhzhia emergency response team transported people from the frontline community to the border with the Dnipro region. There, they were handed over to volunteers from the Dnipro region, who helped them reach the railway station and board a train to Zakarpattia.

Upon arrival, Zakarpattia emergency response team volunteers met the evacuees and transported them to a location where temporary accommodation had been prepared.

In total, Ukrainian Red Cross volunteers evacuated four people, including a 99-year-old woman. All evacuees have health conditions and require additional support, which will be provided at their new location.

The evacuees were not alone — they were accompanied by their two pet cats, who were safely transported with them.

The Ukrainian Red Cross continues to assist people in need of evacuation, providing safe transport and support along the way to safer places to live.
