Skilled Professionals — Quality Rehabilitation: Ukrainian Red Cross Trains Physical Rehabilitation Instructors
A training course for instructors in physical rehabilitation and social adaptation was held in Kyiv. Its goal was to prepare a team of trainers who could teach specialists across Ukraine to safely and effectively position and move people requiring rehabilitation, with attention to their individual needs and conditions. The programme is based on the principles of evidence-based physical rehabilitation.
Over three days, members of the Ukrainian Red Cross mobile rehabilitation units from across Ukraine received theoretical knowledge and developed practical skills.
Using rehabilitation equipment provided for hands-on exercises and guidance from experienced trainers, participants learned about:
- Key rehabilitation aids;
- Basic skills in positioning and moving patients, including fall prevention;
- Managing individuals who have experienced a stroke.
Some sessions were led by Kioku Hirano, a physiotherapist and delegate of the Japanese Red Cross, which consistently supports physical rehabilitation and social adaptation programmes.
Participants learned how to create safe conditions for recovery, supporting health and helping people return to active life in the community. The knowledge and skills gained will allow these trainers to educate other specialists across Ukraine.
