The Ukrainian Red Cross teaches how to create a safe environment for children

As part of the Safety Classes grant initiative, a four-day training was held for specialists and volunteers of the Ukrainian Red Cross. The training aimed to support those who work with children every day in creating spaces where safety is part of the culture, built on trust and mutual support.

Representatives of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine and the National Police of Ukraine also took part, sharing their practical expertise. Rescue officers delivered sessions on fire safety, actions to take during air-raid alerts, and safe behaviour near bodies of water, while police officers spoke about online safety, road safety, and everyday risk awareness.

During the sessions, participants:

  • learned tools and methods for conducting interactive safety lessons;
  • strengthened their practical skills for working with children of different ages;
  • explored modern approaches to interactive learning and effective ways to engage adolescents.

Such training contributes to building a safer future for children and communities. When every child knows how to act in an emergency, they become more resilient — and society becomes better protected.

The training was organised by the Disaster Management Department in cooperation with the Organisational Development Unit, with support from the German Red Cross.
