Ukrainian Red Cross Strengthens Emergency Response Preparedness
With the support of the German Red Cross, the Ukrainian Red Cross delivered modern decontamination stations to the Rivne, Odesa, and Zaporizhzhia regions. These areas face an elevated risk of technological and radiological hazards due to the presence of nuclear power plants and large industrial facilities.
On 9 October, the first practical training on the deployment of these stations took place at the training ground of the State Emergency Service in the Rivne region. The session involved representatives from the Ukrainian Red Cross Civil Protection Unit and volunteers from emergency response teams based in Kyiv, Rivne, Odesa, and Zaporizhzhia.
During the exercise, participants practised decontamination, degassing, and the sanitary treatment of equipment and affected individuals.
These training sessions enhance our teams’ preparedness to operate under real-life conditions and strengthen coordination between the Ukrainian Red Cross and the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
Together, we are building a safety system capable of responding swiftly and effectively to any challenge.
